Well, my wish and prediction of Holland-Argentina final wasn’t correct. But at least Holland is in it…to win it! I wanted Holland all the way from the beginning, and yet rooted for other teams at the same time. Okay, it won’t be a disaster if Spain gets it, I’ll be happy for both first-time World Cup winners. Holland has been to the finals a couple of times and didn’t win. Spain has never been to the finals. Sad story… As someone who’s country been to the world cup once and shamefully returned with its tail between its legs, I gotta give it up for underdogs in this game. And both teams kinda were, with their little and simple wins.

Anyway, yesterday I joined Paul the octopus and called for 1:0 win for Spain.

We were both right!! How sweet is the german defeat. You can’t just bluntly HUMILIATE 3 teams (4:0, 4:1, 4:0) and get away with it. Especially not when it’s done to Lio Messi and his cuddly coach Diego Maradona. I’d like to think of it as Messi’s indirect revenge through his Barcelona teammates.

So this sunday it will be Spain-Holland for the cup, and I’m leaning towards the orange team. Unless of course Jesus Navas will finally play again and have his blue eyes charm on me.

In Wimbledon, the Spaniard won again, unfortunately. Same players, Rafael and Serena, who went home with the food plate or whatever. Now that I think about it, Serena got a plate and Rafa got a fancy cup?? What the deuce. Anyway, not the people I wanted to win, with all respect to them! Will my “people” win this time?? Nothing bad can come out of it, Germany already got its ass kicked. Ha-Ha!

Sport, sport, everywhere

The next few weeks are gonna be a race, but one in which I won’t be moving a lot. This is definitely a sports month, yet a couch potato’s sports month. In the right corner – the next and final levels of the World Cup. In the left corner – tennis with the Wimbledon matches. In the middle – race after finding job ads to send my CV to. Right next to it – 2 exams and 1 paper. If I put the school stuff aside (meh, I only need a pass grade to finish the BA), it’s still pretty hard to pick between the dutch lions and Roger Federer. Eurosport isn’t even broadcasting the full games, so I’ll have to scan the sports channels for the scattered matches. And then I have the solid 2 channels that broadcast the football games in the very convenient circle of 2:30, 5:00, 9:30pm.

The Queen won’t miss Wimbledon! And she’s a busy lady! Or not..?

It started off wanting to be part of the world and watch the big football games. But now I’ve already picked my teams and I must watch their every game. It’s Holland-Argentina to the finals I say! Brazil has me cheering for them too. England messed up so I’m sick of those losers. Except for Mr. Green. I feel bad for that guy. Between his girlfriend dumping him, the poor mistake against the americans and the vuvuzelas right behind his back [that will no doubt make him deaf by the end of it] the guy really does deserve a decent hug. Every game has its politics and my choice of cheering one team or another is pretty arbitrary. Any team that plays against the US should win, ‘cuz them trying ruling the world should stop! You’ve got american football, NBA, baseball. More than enough! And countries where no one knows what an offside is shouldn’t get ahead in football tournaments. Today’s big game is Spain-Honduras and I really hope Spain gets it. They started off badly, even with all those barcelona and real madrid players. The parallel tennis match for that game against Switzerland was of course federer-nadal. Only in tennis I’d be on Switzerland’s side.

Ahhh tennis, football, tennis, football. I should be active myself and not just watch others! Last time I was at the gym summer hit me with a bang. Not only it was hell heat on earth, but kids were everywhere at the pool (some made their way to the gym) and a flush of newcomers was seen at the gym itself. don’t people have jobs? Grrrh. I hate crowded gyms. I wish my parents had pushed me to play tennis or something when I was a kid. No future for me now! Probably takes 20 years just to learn how to serve and hit right.

So I’ll watch it all through my dear LCD TV, all the Andys and Rogers and Williamses and grunting russian girls and also all the Torreses and Sneijders and Messis and Fernandezes. And that korean guy that looks like Ando from Heroes. All that sports (watching) and I’ll gain another half a person in weight!

So… will the lions get ahead?

However, I really want to see Diego hyped again (and not from coke)

My final uni class took place today. I showed up early to take my sister’s MBA since she didn’t show up to her ceremony. That degree looks pretty nice, but it’s not that important actually. She got her job without it, and she’s not really doing anything that relates to that degree. It’s only really cool if you’re a doctor, or a lawyer, then you can show it off and put it on the wall.

My classes are done, on my way to a BA. I’m not sure what mine will say. Communication BA? Film and Television BA? Communication/Film & Television BA? Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Big Brother BA? What the hell, why did I study for a BA? I’ll end up as a cookies restaurant/dogs hotel manager anyway. I’ll only get the stupid BA in a year or so, considering I won’t find any missing credit points and be forced to take another course. I had a class in this small auditorium and the professor said we have to get the hell out of there by 19:30, since last year’s grads are having their BAs served to them in that room. Made me imagine how next year I’ll skip that and be too lazy to show up anytime and take it from the office.

I don’t know how useful it will be in getting a job or getting me anywhere really in this world. I’m saying ta ta to Tel Aviv University but I don’t feel the catharsis I’ve expected. I said goodbye to people in the most casual way and rushed my way as usual to home sweet home. Maybe I’ll see them again during the exams period or change a few words online, maybe I won’t. Seems like 3 years passed without real social connection or useful information learnt. I totally missed on the whole uni lifestyle. As any lifestyle rather than boring turtle lifestyle. Turtle armor is the shit.

The past 2 weeks classes have ended as usual with the professors saying thank you for the semester and how they enjoyed teaching us. And we in return clapped in this weird tradition I never understood. It’s not a show! And I’m not that grateful for people who read some articles and passed that information on to me. Clap clap, sayonara.

My sister’s MBA had my jewish calender’s birth date which made me think “Crap! My birthday’s coming soon!” which made me think I’m heading towards old age, that is 24 and beyond, without one job to pass 2 weeks and no independence at all! I wanna get out. Out!! And take Skye baby with me. Arguably not that easy! Some student accidentally (?) mailed his CV to everyone in film department and he had so much going on there! He’s so young and he sounded like Apple CEO or something. I want to be Apple CEO also. *sob* when will sobbing finally get me somewhere? Eh.

Anyway, so long TAU! And no thanks for the all the fish! You gave me nothing. (Yet?) Except for a discount on gym subscription. Woohoo let’s party it up.

Another cookies moment

sugar powder cookies

With the runner and everything! hehe. *Trying to look classy*. So the first plate was almost completely finished after dinner. Then I let more and more cookies slip away from my hold of them when my siblings took some to their homes. I still have a couple left though.

There’s actually Irish cream in them. And I also imagined the sugar powder to be some sort of hard drugs. Such blasphemous cookies! You eat them and end up a crack whore. Ok, maybe just a chocolate whore. Will…give…anything…for…some more chocolate…and…powder…sugar powder…

Yom Hazikaron

Today is Yom Hazkiron’s eve, meaning the evening before Israeli memorial day. Memorial days are a big deal here, which made me think of the American memorial day. I thought about it, and that might be one thing that really shows the difference between our 2 countries. The American memorial has become some sort of a holiday, a nice opportunity for a bbq. Now I’m not sure why that is. I must say I’ve never been to the US during a memorial day but my impression is that they don’t quite get the point. Okay so I don’t really go visit soldiers’ graves (thankfully I don’t need to) and the last memorial day ceremony I’ve been to was in high school. Do they even have ceremonies in schools there? ‘Cuz here every school, workplace or park has a sentimental ceremony.

In this country everyone knows someone who lost someone in the army or in a terror attack. And if they don’t, they themselves go to the army and know they’re constantly taking a chance. I’m actually in both categories since I’ve been to the army, and, my boss there lost his son. Since it’s part of our everyday mentality each memorial day starts with a siren and ends with one. Same for the holocaust memorial day. I don’t like many things in this place but I do take comfort in those minutes of silence, and solidarity. I don’t know what other countries do that, if any, but being a part of 1 or 2 minutes where everyone stops what they’re doing for the sake of respect for the dead – it feels kinda special. I don’t live in a central place and since I’m mostly at home for those sirens I developed a habit of watching the traffic cameras online. Although you don’t actually see the faces of people all freezing in place flashforward‘s style, it is amazing to see how rush hour traffics (sirens go at 8 pm and 10 or 11 am) stop and stand still.

The other unique thing is, that right after memorial day ends, the independence day celebrations begin. It’s definitely a weird time in this state. One week it’s the holocaust remembrance day, exactly 7 days later it’s the IDF memorial day, and at the same night it changes to celebrating independence. Poetic, isn’t it?

I know most of the world hates us (can’t blame you) but I do take pride in my little country who could. I won’t take part however in the celebrations. At most I will be able to see the fireworks from my window. And definitely hear them. They scare the shit out of my Skye! Dogs are NOT fans of fireworks. Which is too bad since it’s also Skye’s b-day today. Big girl at the age of 7! I wonder where her brothers and sisters are celebrating their b-day. If she has any. I got her a red bone and a beer-shaped toy I should giver her now.

Bitter-sweet day I suppose. But that’s just how Israel rolls.
